Paxos, the baby of the Ionian is a cluster of small Islands and rocky islets, the largest of which are Paxi and Antipaxos. They located 7 miles south of Corfu, at distance of 8 miles from the coast of Eripus in northwestern Greece and 12 miles from the town of Parga. Both Paxos Antipaxos have a lizard-like long and narrow shape. The island covers an area of 19 square kilometers and 3 square kilometers respectively.

Worth visiting… in Gaios.

  • The fortress of Agios Nikolaos, on the island bearing the same name, upon permission from the municipal authority. Tel. 2662 0 32100.
  • The Monastery of Panagia on the small island bearing the same name.
  • The church of Holly Apostles (Agii Apostoli). Located behind the bus stop.
  • The Paleo-Christian church of Agia Marina, in Porto Ozia, at the end of the coastal road, before turning to Moggonisi.
  • The Museum of Paxos. Opening hours 11:00-13:00 am and 19:30-22:30 pm tel. 2662 0 32566.
  • The cistern of Eleousa, above the church, in Vlachopoulatika.
  • The cistern of Agii Apostoli, to the right of the church with the same name.
  • The cistern of Agii Anargyri, above the church.
    The Mill of Lesianiti at Tranakatika.
  • The cliff of Mousmouliou, from Tranakatika.
  • Ostries, for the view of Avlakiou and the sunset. From the road to the right of the church of Agia Paraskevi in Bogdanatika.
  • The beaches: Kloni Gouli, Kamini, Kaki Lagada. On the road after the new harbour, at the crossroads go right towards Platanos-Loggos.

Worth visiting… on Antipaxos

  • The Sandy beaches of Vrika and Voutoumi, by high-speed boat from the harbour, or by fishing boats or other boats.
  • The traditional vineyards.
  • The spring of Kalori.

Worth visiting… in Lakka

  • The house of Drigoutsi in Grammatikeika. On the road the lighthouse, deviate to the left .
  • The lighthouse, from the same road, but deviate to the right.
  • Planous, taking the road to the lighthouse.
  • The Ipapanti (Gandlemas), from the road after the reservoir, going towards Lakka on the left.
  • Monodentri a beach that you can reach using Lakka’s high road. Taking a right opposite the church of Agios Spyridonas in Argyratika.

Worth visiting… in Magazia

  • The church of Agii Apostoli, with a view to Erimitis. At the end of the road that begins opposite Agios Spyridonas, at the petrol station of Magazia, you will see the view of the Ortholitho (the great sea rock formation) as you go towards the left.
  • Kastanida, after the Elementary School on the right hand side at the end of the road, where the area Petrades is located. Magnificent sunsets can be viewed there.

Worth visiting… in Loggos

  • The Anemogiannis factory at the end of the settlement, next to the Elementary School.
  • The beach of Levrechiou and Marmaria. Coming from Paltanos (Fountana) 100 meters before the settlement, take the road to the right.

Paxos Festival

The festival was instituted in 1985, and includes classical music performance by young scholars who can showcase their work through it. These happening take place each September at different locations throughout the island: at the museum and the harbour of Gaios, as well as the Elementary School of Loggos.

Hot Springs

These sources, which have long been known to the inhabitants of the island, spring forth from the subsoil and empty into the sea. Most of them are sulphurous and have been turned into pools. Today they are used for their therapeutic properties, especially in the treatment of rheumatisms. The most important are at Ozia, Giana and Glyfada.
